Easy Valentine Teddy Bear - Free Crochet Pattern

 

Happy February!

Welcome back! Last week I shared my Bear with Valentine Scarf made from the All One Piece Amigurumi Basic Body. 

Going along with that same thread (pun intended - hah!), I thought I'd show you all a much easier pattern for a Valentine bear. 

So, let's do it!



Easy Valentine Teddy Bear Crochet Pattern

Materials:

  • Yarn - Worsted weight yarn. I used Red Heart Super Saver in Mint and Red

  • 3.5 mm crochet hook (E)

  • Fiberfill

  • 10 mm safety eyes

  • Safety nose


Skill Level:

  • beginner


Abbreviations:

  • mr - magic ring

  • sc - single crochet

  • inc - increase (2 sc in same stitch)

  • dec - decrease (sc 2 together)

  • st - stitch

  • ch - chain

  • sl st - slip stitch


Remember that you can use any color of yarn that you want, but if you change the weight of the yarn adjust your hook size to match. Larger weight yarn = larger hook size and vice versa.

As always, we are working in continuous rounds.

Head 

In Mint.


Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, inc) x 6 (18)

Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc) x 6 (24)

Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 st, inc) x 6 (30)

Rnd 6: (sc in next 4 st, inc) x 6 (36)

Rnd 7 - 13: sc 36 (36) - 7 rounds

Rnd 14: (sc in next 4 st, dec) x 6 (30)

Rnd 15: (sc in next 3 st, dec) x 6 (24)


Insert eyes between rounds 12 and 13 with 6 stitches between. Stuff head firmly. 


Rnd 16: (sc in next 2 st, dec) x 6 (18)

Rnd 17: (sc in next 2 st, dec) x 6 (12)

Finish stuffing. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.


Body

In Mint.


Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, inc) x 6 (18)

Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc) x 6 (24)

Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 st, inc) x 6 (30)

Rnd 6: (sc in next 4 st, inc) x 6 (36)

Rnd 7: (sc in next 5 st, inc) x 6 (42)

Rnd 8 - 13: sc 42 (42) - 6 rounds

Rnd 14: (sc in next 5 st, dec) x 6 (36)

Rnd 15 - 16: sc 36 (36) - 2 rounds

Rnd 17: (sc in next 4 st, dec) x 6 (30)

Rnd 18: 30 sc (30)

Rnd 19: (sc in next 3 st, dec) x 6 (24)

Rnd 20: sc 24 (24) 

Rnd 21: (sc in next 2 st, dec) x 6 (18)

Fasten off. Weave in end. Attach head to body.


Muzzle 

In Mint


Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, inc) x 6 (18)

Rnd 4-5: sc 18 (18) - 2 rounds


Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Attach safety nose between rows. Attach to head between eyes. Stuff muzzle before closing stitches.


Arms

Make 2. In Mint.


Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)

Rnd 3 - 5: sc 12 (12)

Rnd 6: dec, sc 9 (10) 

Rnd 7 - 10: sc 10 (10) - 4 rounds 

Stuff hands only. Sew tops of arms closed. Attach to body on Rnd 22.


Legs

Make 2. In Mint.


Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, inc) x 6 (18)

Rnd 4 - 7: 18 sc (18) - 4 rounds

Rnd 8: (sc in next st, dec) x 6 (12)

Rnd 9 - 12: 12 sc (12) - 4 rounds

Fasten off. Sew tops of legs closed. Attach to body.

Ears

Make 2. In Mint.


Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, inc) x 6 (18)

Rnd 4-5: sc 18 (18) - 2 rounds


Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing. DO NOT STUFF. Attach.


Heart

In Red.


The following will form the bottom of the heart.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mr (6)

Rnd 2: sc 6 (6)

Rnd 3: (2 sc, inc) x 2 (8)

Rnd 4: (3 sc, inc) x 2 (10)

Rnd 5: (sc, inc) x 5 (15)

Rnd 6: (2 sc, inc) x 5 (20)

Rnd 7: (3 sc, inc) x 5 (25)

Rnd 8: sc 25 (25)

Rnd 9: inc, sc 9, inc x 3, sc 9, inc x 3 (32)

Rnd 10 - 11: sc 32 (32)


After this point, we are working on the top bumps.

Rnd 12: sc 8, ch 2, skip 16 st., sc 8

Rnd 13: sc 8, dec in back loops of ch 2, dec, sc 7 (16)

Rnd 14: dec, 14 sc (15)

Rnd 15: (3 sc, dec) x 3 (12)

Rnd 16: dec x 6 (6)

Finish off. Use yarn tail and yarn needle to close up hole if needed.

Now, we will begin the other bump on top of the heart starting with sl st into the first skipped stitch of round 12 as shown:

Stuff firmly as you go.

Rnd 17: sc 7, dec x 3, sc 7 - crochet into the front loops of the ch. 2 from round 12 (16)

Rnd 18: 14 sc, dec (15)

Rnd 19: (3 sc, dec) x 3 (12)

Rnd 20: dec x 6 (6)

Finish stuffing. Fasten off and use the tail to close the hole same as before. 


You may recognize the heart from the Amigurumi Kawaii Heart (my very first post!). The only thing we did differently was - we did not add a face. You definitely could if you wanted. It would be so cute!


Finishing

With yarn needle and red yarn, attach the heart to all four paws.
